Salvatore Sabella
July 7, 1891, to 1962.

Sabella was installed as Philadelphia Mafia boss by Brooklyn-based boss of bosses Salvatore D'Aquila around 1919. D'Aquila was known for placing allies in positions of power in Mafia organizations around the country. The D'Aquila and Magaddino underworld organizations apparently cooperated in training the new Mafia leader.

During the Castellammarese War, Sabella fought on the side of Salvatore Maranzano, going so far as to relocate back to Brooklyn with some of his gunmen to do battle with the forces of Giuseppe Masseria.

After that gang conflict, Sabella stepped down as boss, turning the underworld administration over to John Avena. Sabella went into a peaceful retirement and reportedly lived another three decades.
